What happens after cancellation

Not every cancellation receives a refund. Direct purchasers see eligibility during cancellation; stores and retailers own their refunds and cancellation.

How to know it worked

Services page shows an expiration date and no recurring billing.

Before you cancel: pay less

Documented option

Switch subscription or billing cycle if suitable, or turn off recurring billing while retaining benefits to expiry.

Annual versus monthly changes are not the same as changing product; third-party billers control their plans.

Offer may appear

Microsoft may show another subscription type, not a guaranteed discount. If an offer appears, compare its cadence, end date, and full renewal price. Never assume an account-specific offer is guaranteed.

What they don't tell you

If the page says Turn on recurring billing, renewal is already off. After expiry, personal cloud allowance falls to 5 GB and Outlook.com storage to 15 GB; over-quota OneDrive/Outlook functions stop and OneDrive files may be deleted after the documented grace period.

If you subscribed through Apple

Microsoft 365 cannot cancel a subscription that Apple bills. On your iPhone open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, choose Microsoft 365 and cancel there. Check the receipt: if it came from Apple, that is your route.

Check the biller first

Microsoft direct; Apple; Google Play; Amazon and other retailers. If Apple, Google Play, Amazon, PayPal, a carrier, or another partner appears on the receipt, cancel with that provider instead of using the merchant's direct route.
